Reflecting on Memories for Christmas
The fireplace is glowing a bright orange and the warmth can be felt throughout the home. The stockings are dangling, hung with such love and care. The smell of hot cider tickles the nose and sends the senses reeling. We carefully tuck the wee ones tight into bed a soft and tender kiss upon the forehead with a whisper of sweet dreams and good night’s.
Memories of a splendid time are etched upon my brain, memories of love and happiness that abounded through a house filled laughter and joy. The stories that were told while sitting around the fireplace of how Baby Jesus was born and swaddled in a manger or those stories of a jolly ole elf that when he laughed his belly would jiggle like a bowl full of jelly. Oh the memories how they bring a smile to my face.
Excited the kids found it hard to sleep talking into the wee hours while we, mom and dad, were putting together the big toys that were to be left behind by Santa the following morning. The little snickers would send us scurrying about to hide the toys until just the right time. Then as silence would fall about in the room next door, a peek in would assure me all is well in my home.
The sound of laughter filling the house, the joy of giving wrapped in neatly stacked boxes. We let our minds go back to yesteryear when our moms did the baking and the cooking for a wonderful Christmas dinner and dad would play with us to keep us busy and out of the kitchen. The smells would fill the house making you feel warm and fuzzy. The love that filled each dish was enough to fill us without even a bite to eat.
Ah, the memories that flood my mind when on Christmas morning we would pile around the tree and sing caroles before opening the gifts, yes the memories of being on top of the world for a such a short time. Christmas was warm and fun. Laughter filled us to the brim and today it spills over to our children as we sit and listen to the laughter and fun they are having this Christmas season.
Merry Christmas Angels, may your memories keep you smiling this year.
