John Fitz
John Fitz, he lived in Tavistock,
of this you can be sure,
'Til he became enchanted by
the Pixies on the moor.
For seven years he travelled on
for he was 'Pixie-led',
And never did he see the moon,
or rest his weary head.
On and on he wandered 'til
he came to 'Pixies Cleave',
And came upon a little one
with thornies in his sleeve.
"Oh, let me help you, little one
from out the thornie tree,
Then come and dry your eyes,
and rest your head upon my knee".
'Oh, do you see the windy path
beset with thorns and rock?
If you should take this road you'll reach
your home in Tavistock'.
John Fitz then placed a Stone against
a Spring beneath the clay,
A gift to all the Pixie-folk,
It stands there to this day!
