Silver Wedding

I close my eyes, then sink back into Time

To a church filled with people, to love in its prime.

Here is a couple, with faces aglow,

With eyes for no other, hearts beating low.

Could nobody tell me, nobody say,

That life will just last for a year and a day?

If they only had spoken, only had said,

"Hold onto the minutes, for soon they are fled".

But life will go by, life will not stay,

Though you bind it with love, it will still slip away;

Though you stitch it with teardrops, wrung from your heart

The minutes will still slip away and depart:

If I open my eyes, what now shall see?

Why, the same burning love is still holding me.

Each beat of the heart, each wondering breath

Just strengthens the bond that transcends even Death.

For it's part of a pattern, part of a plan,

The meaning of which is a mystery to man.

The Weaver of Time holds us all in His hand,

Not yet, 'til the Crossing shall we understand.
