“Your shoe’s untied!” Jerry yelled pointing at the cop’s foot. How foolish could the cop be to look down on simple reaction? He fell for it! Jerry couldn’t believe it and the instant it happened he swung his money bag around knocking the gun out of the cop’s hand, an expression of disbelief at his own stupidity crossed his face. And Jerry didn’t hesitate to kick the cop in the testicles as hard as he could. He dropped like a tree, clutching his groin in pain, which showed through his facial expressions in the form of squinting eyes and gritting teeth. “Ha!” Jerry laughed and jumped over the cop and began his run for freedom once more.
Taken by surprise the getaway driver jolted upright when he saw Jerry run out of the door, and fling his mask in the air as he sprinted at full speed down an alley. Jerry ran and ran, as fast as he could till he was sure he was safe. A sigh of relief escaped his lungs as he leaned forward to catch his breath. Here I come Bermuda. Jerry thought as he pulled open the duffel bag to witness the spectacular image of easy-living from now on. Resting for a moment he sat on a crate with his back against a brick wall, that belonged to his favorite pizza restaurant. I wonder if it’s safe to go get a bite to eat. Jeez I can already taste the cheese steak. Jerry got back to his feet then bent over to tie a shoelace and a bullet exploded into the brick right above his head, sending a light shower of red and gray pebbles onto his back.
“There he is! That fucking bastard bailed on us!” Ty’s voice echoed down the alley, as he ran towards Jerry with his gun pointed at him, followed by two men in ski masks.
“Oh shit sticks!” Jerry screamed as he jumped to his feet and began running away from them. Bullets zipped past him, striking trashcans, dumpsters and the brick walls of buildings. Running with a gun in one hand, another shoved in the back of your pants and carrying a clumsy duffel bag stuffed full of money slowed Jerry down a lot more, and the other three guys were gaining on him. A turn he could make came into view and Jerry took it, he stopped just before the corner and fired several shots back, hoping to slow them down.
A loud scream came down the alley and Jerry saw one of the large men behind Ty drop to the ground and clutch his thigh in pain. Ty and the other guy ducked close to the ground and took cover behind some dumpsters. The last thing Jerry saw was red strobe lights from the streets flashing through the spaces between buildings onto the alley walls. Not wanting to stick around to face the cops again Jerry ran faster than ever. Behind him he heard yells and more gunfire. So many twists and turns greeted Jerry he had no idea where he was in the city any more, until he found the paper mill warehouse. This was one of our safe houses if something went wrong. It’s Saturday so I guess nobody’s workin today. Having no other place to go, and being out of breath, Jerry found himself in a desperate situation. Even though he had the feeling he was being followed he broke in through a window on the first floor and made his way up.
“Jeez am I hungry.” Jerry whined.
“Eat your tongue.” Ty said. Tired faces began to be apparent on all three men. Fatigue was setting in.
