“Did you know you killed my brother Artimus? That’s how I know you.” Ty said after a few minutes of silence.

“I don’t remember it, but your brother deserved it, whoever he was.” Artimus said with confidence, not even caring what Ty was getting at.

Ty looked as though he was going to say something, but waited. He wanted Artimus to think he was right. The wind howled outside and Artimus just stood there bending his neck back and forth, turning away from Ty, and trying to ignore the scornful eyes.

“So a kid with a cap gun deserves to die?” Ty asked with his eyes closed. Artimus’s eyes shot wide open, as he remembered the only mistake he ever made as a police officer. Today it would come back to haunt him. Before Artimus could even turn back to face the man, Ty pulled the trigger. The long dormant bullet sparked to life in the chamber and flying at undetectable speeds drove itself into Artimus’s head, flinging it back as he fell to the floor. In an instant later a second shot rang out, this time coming on reflexes rather than intention. The next bullet burst from Jerry’s gun into Ty’s head. Ty hadn’t even worried about pulling the trigger to the gun aimed at Jerry, and now he too was falling lifeless to the floor.

Two shots rang out, that was all it took. A stunned Jerry stood by himself breathing heavy, his heart racing as much as it had earlier that day. Stars twinkled in the skylight above him. Jerry checked Ty and Artimus before running out of the room. His arms were no longer sore from being held up all day, and they stretched upwards in the air as he yelled “Yes!” running down the steps to freedom. Flashing lights and clicking chambers greeted Jerry outside.

“Freeze! Get your hands in the air!”

Jerry walked into his new home carrying his only set of clothes in front of him. The small cozy room smelled the way it always had.

“Hey Jerry! We get to be cellmates again! How long has it been, six years?” The beefy man said standing up to greet Jerry. He left his copy of Alice in Wonderland face down on his bed, expecting to get back to it later. Jerry didn’t accept the bear hug too kindly from the reeking man, but he had no choice than to get on his good side. My life is over. I would have rather died back in that room, than live out the rest of my life in this shit hole. Jerry didn’t say a word as he set his clothes on his bed and walked over to the bar enclosed window.

“Man buddy we are gonna have some fun. Just like ole times.” Said the man rolling back onto his bed to snuggle up with his book again. Jerry sighed and continued to stare at the sun setting. I wonder if Ty is getting his.

Ty walked as a broken soul through the valley of darkness. His body burned with searing pain all over, and frost coated his naked self. All around him he was prodded and smacked by unseen hands. Too frozen to defend himself he walked along to nowhere.

“You’ve finally arrived Ty.” A voice came from the shadows before him.
