Black Flower

I wish I could tell you I had a… weird dream the other day. I did not have one of those. It was a nightmare instead. I hate nightmares that won’t end and you can’t get out of. This was one of those; I was trapped inside.

The earliest I can remember is walking to class. It was autumn and the day was pretty gloomy with gray clouds covering every part of the sky. I was looking up at them wondering how there could be so many in the area to create a giant quilt to cover the sky completely and leave no blue exposed to the cold. I don’t know how long that went on for but I had a long ways to walk before I got to the building my class was in. At some point I remembered feeling hungry and a lunch truck conveniently turned the corner and parked on the side of the road. Ha! That lunch truck is the only thing that makes me laugh when I look back on this. It was painted bright pink all over and had a sign on the side that said Betty’s Bruntch. I walked over to it, not really knowing why and stopped by the service window. About a minute later a very tiny oriental lady stepped out of the area where the driver and passenger seats would be. This moment happened quickly and I don’t remember exactly what are conversation was but it sounded something like this. “How much for a breakfast sandwich?” I asked. “Fife dolla.” “What about a bagel?” “Fife dolla” “Umm, how much are these soft pretzels?” “Fife dolla”. This strange character only spoke two words the whole time so instead of wasting my time I bought the breakfast sandwich, which was the best deal for five dollars.

I don’t remember eating the breakfast sandwich I think I put it in my bag for later, but I hurried to my class. I was late and I felt really bad and my professor was already way into the class. I was immediately swamped with catching up on notes and I was very confused. It was like any minute I was going to end up doing schoolwork for the rest of my life. This thankfully was a blur for me and I tried to forget about it as much as I could when the bell rang. I repeated this ritual several more times each one seemed like the same, pointless process. I am sorry I did not mention this at the beginning but as you may have noticed I don’t remember a lot of the segments from this… I don’t think many other people do either.

I eventually found myself walking down a one car wide road only it wasn’t really a road it was more like a driveway, but a really weird one. It led to a parking lot or something, I can’t describe it too well because at the time I had one thing on my mind, food. I followed a crowd of people, of which I over heard talking about food and it seemed pretty obvious they were heading towards some. I could tell from where I was standing, there was a building up a head. I got to it and went inside. I had to stand in line before I could enter the cafeteria. When I got to the front a fat lady sitting on a stool behind a table said something to me. Her voice was so raspy and low that I could not understand a damn thing she was saying so I gave her some money. She said something else so I gave her another bill, then another, and another. I emptied my wallet and when she said something once again for the final time, which I still had no clue about I just shook my head. Then she typed in a cash register and gave me a receipt and I walked in. I felt really awkward, but then I saw her. I can still remember her face at that moment. She was so beautiful. I would give anything to have that moment lead to a happy ending, but what the hell, it wasn’t real. I made that part up for show because it sounds better. Anyway I somehow found myself sitting across from her pretty face and we began talking. I can’t remember what our conversation was about.
