Manhattan Sky
As the white smoke choked the morning air,
The nation, the world, did not stand and stare.
We banded together to try to preserve,
To protect, to reflect ,
And to observe
What evil angry men can do when their hearts grow cold.
We search for hope to pull through
And the ability, as a nation, to be strong.
Still, here we sit,
A nation in mourning
Watching the world fall down.
No clear path to a happier day.
It all still seems a terrible dream
The towers still stand tall.
The pentagon did not fall.
The planes, they still fly high
In the unchanged Manhattan sky.
Terror fills the land tonight
As we wait for news of our loved ones plight.
We hope, and wish,
And dream out loud
That they will be home, soon.
But, day into night,
And night into day,
We silently pray,
And say our final good-byes,
To the souls high above
In the shattered Manhattan sky.
