ABOUT US

REJOICE, Inc. was founded in November, 2003, and incorporated on January 20, 2004 as the faith-based, 501(C)(3) outreach of New Birth Cathedral of Glory Missionary Baptist Church.  The founders are Pastor Richmond Edwards, Jr. and First Lady Debra H. Edwards, both retired educators, who saw a need to assist their members and the community in maximizing their potential for success and service.  Our Board of Directors includes seven visionary servant-leaders with a heart for service.

It is the MISSION of REJOICE, Inc. to equip and empower individuals and families for excellence and service.  Based on the teachings of the Holy Bible, it is our responsibility to serve those in need.  Although we are a faith-based non-profit, our services are  geared to meet the needs of the general public exclusive of religious practices such as religious instruction, worship or proselytizing unless requested by our clients.

OUR WORK

Our first major project was “40 Days of Purpose” which included 236 participants resulting in 12 service projects to meet various needs in the community (clothing and food distribution, a community picnic with a wide variety of activities for children and their families, etc.).  We offer after-school tutoring and enrichment and Success of Saturdays, an entrepreneurial/service enrichment program for school-aged children and teens.  In addition we offer counseling and we are in the process of developing workshops to enhance the quality of life for participants.

Because of the aftermath of Katrina and Rita, several of our projects that were on the drawing board became a reality.  In collaboration with the Lexington Ministerial Alliance from Lexington, Ohio, we are restoring homes to workable and sometimes livable conditions by removing debris; removing furnishings; killing mold; disinfecting salvageable household items; gutting walls, etc.  In addition, we are distributing food(cooked and non-perishable), water, clothing, infant and children food, materials, supplies, household items and cleaning products; serving as a referral service, transporting individuals to access needed services; providing housing and food for volunteers; providing job development, training and placement in collaboration with our Jefferson Parish Workforce Development Office, etc.
