Take Off With Me

Romance
interrupted
Trust
stricken from the vocabulary
of an overly-concerned mother.
No, ma'am, we will not separate.
Not from the bonds of a thing
you wish would go away.

Baby, take off with me.
Let's keep walking
till we reach freedom.
We'll run barefoot through clover patches
and swim unclothed in crystal springs.

Baby, take off with me.
Send back abstract postcards of two figures
dancing in the moonlight,
and then say goodbye,
leaving only your spite and your shoes.

Baby, take off with me.
