HEALING HER HURTS
"A collection of short stories and poems that speak to a woman's soul."

You do not have to be a mother, a daughter, a sister or friend. You don’t even have to be a woman. You need only to be a person who has experienced life and living, to be pulled into the pages of HEALING HER HURTS.

From the first page to the last Pat McLean-RaShine’s words flow in a way that keeps the reader turing the pages.
Every story, every poem, leaves you eager and in a hurry to get to the next.

She has done something with her writings that many of us do not have the vision or courage to do. She has exposed herself to us by sharing what it feels like to be a woman. By doing so she reveals that she is eminently and impressively human.

From her first poem entitled “BIRTHSENSE,” where she speaks of the connection between a mother and her yet to be born child, she is brutally honest about the fears and frustrations of both. She goes on to speak of abuse and betrayal and ultimately forgiveness in “ RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT.” By telling uncomfortable truths, she may have frightened us a little, because many of us are in denial about our relationships with our mothers. She also free's us to at least acknowledge our feelings.

She is equally open in her poem “INCESSANT MEMORIES.” Here she talks of the damage and distance between father and daughter. However, because it seems as if society is more accepting of the dysfunctional relationships between father and child than they are of mother and child, the impact is somewhat different, but nonetheless relevant.

Her story “AT THE END OF THE BEGINNING,” and her poem “HER LAST NIGHT,” makes us sense what it must feel like to loose life at the hands of someone you love. Although no longer a taboo topic, spousal abuse is still something that many of woman go through great pains to keep secret. Often because they are ashamed and afraid, and sometimes because it is what they were taught to do. This came from a social environment where we were raised to believe that what went on behind closed doors, must at all cost remain there.

Pat’s opening lines in both are raw, yet radiantly real. The book is a window into life, not just hers, but ours as well. With both content and style its pace surges, slows, and then explodes.

The beautiful thing of these stories and poems are the easiness with which they are told. In a simple and natural manner that anyone can relate to, they move you. They are true and honest and real. They will make you laugh, feel angry, elated. They will also make you weep. Yet they will not be tears of sorrow, on the contrary, they will be tears of thankfulness. You will feel thankful that you have moved emotionally to a place in your life where it is okay to cleanse your spirit while refurbishing your soul.

HEALING HER HURTS, will help you remember. It doesn’t matter how old you are. It doesn’t matter what your background is. It doesn’t mater who your parents are. If you are a woman, or the son, brother, father, or friend of a woman, the stories and poems between these pages will help you understand and know the strength of a woman.

Words have the power to transform. Pat McLean-RaShine’s words are packed with that power. She has given us the most treasured gift, the gift of self. Her stories and poems deeply rich and tragic, leaves us wiser and makes us understand something meaningful and important about life and human nature.

In addition to her new collection of short stories, other writings by Pat McLean-RaShine are also availble.
