Something Other than Nightmares the peace rally of October 27, 2001
we were supposed to gather at 43rd and Broadway
but the police who didn’t like peace
pulled last minute tactics
asked it to be moved to 42nd
then they enclosed the thousand pacifists in rails
probably hoping we’d be derailed
but we weren’t
and they watched the movement happen.

They chuckled condescendingly
at the leftist remarks of the speakers
Authority don’t seem to want revolution eh?

They called six firetrucks in
though no fire was
the fighters (of fire)
chuckled
with the cops
then blasted their horns loud as hell
yelled in a loudspeaker us to go home
and drove away
off into a world
at war with itself
over face
over oil
over money
And we Boil
Steaming
because only 1,000 people here are dreaming
something other than nightmares
