Mouse to Snake The snake waits in its lair
the mouse dangled above from the fingers of a god
upon the drop into its certain doom,
there is no hope for the mouse short of divine intervention
The mouse approaches the snake without fear
it crawls over the hungry body
and sniffs curiously at its very own death
inevitably, fate is aroused
by the mouse's fearless explorations
and the mouse is ended
in order to continue the snake
with an instantaneous strike to its back side
and as the snake encircles its prey wrapped among its body
with every gasp, life is squeezed out of the mouse
and passed on to the snake.
Death was inevitable for the mouse
and it died fearlessly
in the noble name
of the cycle of life
