Insect Communes
Spider jumps onto my seat as I study trigonometry late at night
I look to the side and see a cockroach standing upon a head of broccoli, its antennae fingering my sesame chicken,
and as I see the myriad mosquitoes that cling to my ceiling
(even though those vampires are the most inhospitable creature I know)
I feel inspired to shout

Insects, share my abode with me!
Let us live in equality!
A communal inter-species harmony!

it is then that I look up to see

bugs flying through my open window
moths and mosquitoes alike
they fly into the
light
they see
they think that it will set them free
that they behold a higher force
they fly into the
lamp
they scorch
burnt at the stake of halogen heat
they tried to touch the sun
they tried to kiss the sky
can’t blame them for hoping
they die
just so that I
can do my studying in a lit room
constantly distracted by
a crackle like petal-scrapes of a broom
the steaming
every 10 seconds another one goes
steaming
burning particles smell through the air
rotting dispersal Do I Not Care?
that death
is the cost
of convenience?
I do
but not enough
to get up off my ass
and turn off the gas
of my chamber

yes, it is then that I look up to see
Destruction of Humanity
Why we cannot live in unity,
So utterly selfish are we!
