He was a radical idealist
whom the people rejected
in too much fear
in the wake of a terrorist attack
to let truth prevail.
Though we had high hopes strong through
that we would win the election
and the people would win an advocate
the people voted safely
for the unprogressive
now we ain’t campaigning no more
and we’ll clean up the headquarters
and I’ll go home...
But I had plenty good times
and I learned and I grew
and I’d love to do it all again even if I knew
that today I’d be disappointed
looking for something new to do.
I’m not gonna take my Norman Siegel pin off
I’ll wear it as I walk the streets of a city
ravaged and afraid
of the world and of help
I’ll wear it
as I march in the peace rallies
never abandoning
his idealism
we’ve got a war going on
and I don’t want more people to die
so let’s build a movement
let’s be peaceful, uncompromising
forever proud and strong
as we fight a battle against wrong
I’d rather win peace than win a war
I have lost an election
the city has lost an opportunity
but the world must not lose its peace
the people must not lose their freedom
the loss of the battle on the 11th saddens me
but Fight on for the Revolution
we will be freed
