Alarm Clock
Everyone hates their alarm clock;
it's so rude,
obstreperous irreverent
it always intrudes
upon our sleepy fantasies
it always alludes
to a dreary day of time-bound toil and no play,
but hey
don't kill the messenger:
who sent he message?

school, work
the boss
the man, damn the man
right?

But is the man the root?
if we give him the boot
ain't there always a second-in-command
dying to take his place?

Understand the man: greedy bastard, no?
what makes him so damnable?
the desire for money,
the existence of capital.
Believe it or not
what's causing the rot
is something intangible:
Ring Ring
it's that time of morning
a new day is dawning
only a fool
would play by the rules

Bob Dylan did say
ya gotta serve somebody
but don't we all like his early stuff better anyway?
