captions by daniel domaguin ^Kaua`i, the "Garden Isle", is no longer an active volcano. after millions of years, water has eroded the rocks from once fiery lava flows into rounded boulders. ^castrated palm trees line Waikiki during sunset. the City of Honolulu decided to grow palm trees that bear no coconuts: tourists have been known to not understand that coconuts fall. ^Jump Rock at Waimea Bay on the North Shore of O`ahu has not always been a geographical location one would want to leap from. at one time Jump Rock was on land. just over half a century ago, americans began to mine the sand at Waimea Bay, causing the shore to move back. a once healthy beach has shrunk and the dry remnant of lava flow now partially submerged in the pacific.
