A Christmas Ballad

There'd come time the old ones said,
A king would come and rule the land.
Decades came and decades went,
Till all their hope was all but spent.

King of earth and King divine
A mounted Lord he bides his time.
His army waits to slay his foe,
So the redeemed can come back home.

A king of earth and heav'n above.
A helpless babe who'd die for love.
To earth he came without his crown,
Forsake he did, a crib of down.

King of earth and King divine
A mounted Lord he bides his time.
His army waits to slay his foe,
So the redeemed can come back home.

His mother pure, had known no man,
Yet traveled she to distant land.
A child born not in an inn,
but in stable cold with light so dim.

King of earth and King divine
A mounted Lord he bides his time.
His army waits to slay his foe,
So the redeemed can come back home.

No princes came to honour him,
The land rejoiced but the people sinned.
So helpless was this little one,
To them he'd not send the Romans home.

King of earth and King divine
A mounted Lord he bides his time.
His army waits to slay his foe,
So the redeemed can come back home.

The angels sang and shepherds knelt,
to show this babe how true they felt.
The Years did pass and Wiseman came,
They honoured him then sped away.

King of earth and King divine
A mounted Lord he bides his time.
His army waits to slay his foe,
So the redeemed can come back home.

The comely lad and parents both,
Took flight and hid away from home.
A price upon this child's head,
Had forced them all to flee their beds.

King of earth and King divine
A mounted Lord he bides his time.
His army waits to slay his foe,
So the redeemed can come back home.

Come one, come all to honour him,
This king of all shall come again.
Not as he did but as he should,
The final word in time's long book.

King of earth and King divine
A mounted Lord he bides his time.
His army waits to slay his foe,
So the redeemed can come back home.
