Bee Chase...
I don't remember exactly how long ago it was.
I do know clearly what happened, and where.
I believe it was one day in 1996. Adam, Alan and I decided to go for a
walk out back of our grandmothers house. Back then, it seemed like quite a ways. I look back now and think it really wasn't
that far at all. This particular day wasn't really sunny, but it wasn't dark. There were some clouds drifting slowly by, with
chances of rain. We swung on the old tire swing, pushing each other or just jumping onto it and gliding through the air, then
jumping off when the swing would go no farther. When we got sick of that, we wandered off towards the neighbors trailer. We found a
small clearing in the woods where we just sat around for a few minutes. I think it was Alan who stepped on the bee hole; and
that's when the real adventure began. Alan took off running, so Adam followed, and I was right behind them. A huge swarm of
bees were chasing us back home. We were getting scratched up as we tripped over tree branches. Running through small water puddles
we got muddy. Stumbling and running as hard as we could no matter what. Adam fell down and I stopped to catch my breath: which didn't
last long.I encouraged Adam to get back up and get moving! I glanced behind me for a moment and saw this big
circle of buzzing bees. It was frightening. Imagining those things all over our bodies as we would frantically be rolling and
swatting at them to leave us alone. Of course nobody believed us at our grandmothers house. I don't know where we lost them, or even how.
It reminded me a lot of the events in Jurassic Park. That small adventure will always be wonderful to remember.
