Paso Fino Qualities
We became interested in gaited horses after a vehicle accident left Beth with back problems. After researching several breeds, she decided the smooth gait of the Paso Fino was for her, and she hasn’t looked back since. The gaited movment seems to relax and exercise her problem areas, so that when she's in pain, she gets on her horse and rides, and relief is just a fine pace away. She has found that the smooth ride of the Paso Fino is the greatest therapy ever created.
Our horses always garner much attention, as their unique gait and beauty attract the curious. We have heard questions such as: “How did you get your horse to walk like that?” “Do they need special shoes or training?” “Is it rough?” This last question is raised because the feet are moving so quickly, however, if the spectator observes the rider, he/she will realize that the rider barely moves in the saddle at all because the lateral gait is so incredibly smooth. Many have also commented on the kindness and intelligence in their eyes.
For now, we will continue to promote this wonderful breed in the Atlantic Provinces. Due to the difference in our gaits and the rarity of our breed, we consider a show a success by the number of people who have shown an interest in our breed and who are willing to ride them and learn about them.
We plan on attending future horse shows at Horse World in Fredericton this summer, feel free to stop in and chat or even go for a ride. We are also available for demonstrations. Knowing many North-Eastern breeders, we will gladly assist any one who is interested in purchasing a Paso Fino of their very own.
