Touch Me

We have hope-
We whose hearts are open wide,
Having shared ourselves
And often cried.
There is no love
Where there is no meeting.
Lives that speak at a distance
Can bring little comfort.
You need to touch
To appreciate the sores and cuts;
The hurts others feel.
You need to hold
To bring relief from pain and fear;
Only tenderness restores.
When we are distant
We cannot feel the hurt others feel.
We need to hold
And find each other.
Risk the pain of separation,
Anger and the desperate cry for help
That surfaces when love is shared,
Grief awakened.
You touch me and hold me tight
And I will live to be alright.
Reach out to me and hold my hand
And we will walk into the Promised Land.
