“OK, who are you and what have you done with JC?”

“Huh?  What are you talking about?”

Gina sighed and shook her head.  “Now Joshie,” she started, laughing when he cringed at her choice of address, “You know very well that the lovely little nickname I gave you was not a compliment.  Normally you are a rude, arrogant, self-absorbed asshole.  All the sudden you are a perfect gentleman and you actually had a date with a decent girl, and judging from that dreamy smile she had I’m guessing you didn’t treat her like your usual . . . friends, shall we say?  So, I’m asking again, who are you and what have you done with JC?”

“I don’t know what you mean.”

She rolled her eyes.  “Yeah, whatever.”  JC watched her walk away and shook his head, confused.  He didn’t think he was all that different.

Sarah hung up the phone and growled in frustration.  She had tried all day to get in touch with Stacy but it just didn’t seem to be happening.  “Oh well,” she muttered, “at least she can’t kick my butt for not trying to tell her.”  She glanced at the phone one last time and headed for the shower.  She felt strangely calm about all that had happened.  She was probably in shock, she mused.

By the time Stacy knocked at the door to her apartment, Sarah was over the shock.  “Freaking out” was an understatement.  Sarah opened the door and at the same time, both girls screamed, “Oh my God!  You’re not going to believe this!”

“You go first,” Sarah said.

“Guess who I met today!”

“The man of your dreams.”

“Don’t tease, it’s true!”

“So who was this mystery guy?” Sarah asked, a bit calmer now just because Stace was there at last.

“You are so not going to believe me, but I swear it’s the truth.  I actually met Chris Kirkpatrick today.  He came in and ordered a milkshake and I GOT TO HAND IT TO HIM!  I swear I am going to marry that man . . . or at least jump him a few times.  That is if I ever get close enough again,” she added, her face falling a bit.  “So, what were you so excited about?”

“Um, Stace, I think you might get close enough sooner than you think.  You know how *NSYNC was supposed to be at that club the other night?  Well I went and they were.”

“Sarah, what are you saying?”

“I’m saying that I met JC, and I actually went out with him . . . TWICE!”

“You are lying,” Stacy said, looking uncharacteristically shocked.

“No, I swear, I have been trying to call you all day.”

“OK, so let me get this straight . . . you met JC Chasez TWO DAYS ago and you DIDN’T TRY TO TELL ME UNTIL TODAY?”

“I . . . um, yeah, pretty much.”

“I can’t believe this!”  Stacy said, grabbing a small pillow off the couch and throwing it at Sarah.  The two got into a pillow fight and ended up collapsing in a heap of laughter.  “Um, Sarah?” Stacy said after she caught her breath, “Does this mean our seats are better than I think?”  Sarah nodded slowly and Stacy jumped up.  “Get moving girl, we have major work to do if we’re gonna be ready in time!”  The two friends ran for the bathroom and the large makeup mirror.  Normally they weren’t nearly so vain, but this was a very special occasion.
