CHAPTER TWO

CHAPTER TWO

Liz made her sing the whole way there. Sadie loved her for it. Sadie loved Dan, too, for joining in and not asking questions and feigning boyband interest, even though Sadie knew he was much more the classic rock fan and would never be caught DEAD singing Nsync in public. Yet, here he was in the car belting out “Digital Get Down” like a seasoned groupie. Sadie couldn’t repress her smile.

This, she thought to herself, is what friendship is all about.

Craig had never really been a ‘friend’ per se. He had been a lover, yes, and a very big part of her life, but he had never been a simple friend. She’d never shared things with him. She’d never trusted him with her innermost thoughts and feelings. She’d also constantly felt like she had to be on her best behavior around him or he’d have a nervous breakdown. To say Craig was anal would have been an understatement. The man used 5 different kitchen utensils to eat a home cooked meal. And that had quickly gotten tiresome. But there were the good things, too…like Craig gave killer back massages and Craig fucked like nobody’s business. If nothing else, she would DEFINITELY miss the sex. It was going to suck to be a third wheel this vacation…

“Hey! You still with us back there?”

Sadie snapped out of her reverie and saw Liz’s laughing eyes peeping at her in the mirror.

“Yeah, I’m here,” she replied with a wan smile, “Just spacing.”

Liz’s mirror-eyes narrowed.

“Sades…there will be NO MOPING in my car,” she warned, “Now you either start helping me bring in da noise, or you’re walking the rest of the way, understand?”

Sadie’s smile turned into a grin.

“Sorry,” she said, “I’m bringin’.”

“Damn skippy you are!” Liz declared.

And with that she began belting out the lyrics at the top of her voice once more. Sadie joined in. Dan shook his head, but sang anyway.

They arrived in Tahoe 2 hours later.
