CHAPTER 19

JC spoke through clenched teeth as they slid back into the Jeep.

“Where are we going?”

“My place.”

They drove in silence. The tension that had surrounded them for a full day filled the Jeep until Sadie thought she’d smother under it; JC took the turns too fast, too sharply, and when she glanced over at him, she saw the muscle in his jaw twitch, the vein in the back of his hand stand out on the stick. She’d never felt so aroused, so alive in her life; her nipples stood out painfully against her bra, and moisture pooled in her underwear. God, she wanted him.

They stood on opposite sides of the elevator, unspeaking. Sadie knew if she reached out for him, touched him, brushed him, they’d end up on the floor of the elevator.

That would be bad.

Her hand shook as she fumbled for her card key. He came up behind her, inches away, and she could feel his breath on her ear as he spoke.

“Sadie,” he said. “Slow down. We’ve got all day.”

Sadie froze, hand gripping the card key until her knuckles turned white. His lips brushed her ear, his breath stirring her hair; her knees weakened, and she braced herself against the door to keep from collapsing. A moment later, his tongue brushed the rim of her ear, and she sighed; his teeth bit at her earlobe, and he ran his hands down her arms, over her ski jacket, and clasped her hands.

“God, Sadie,” he hissed. “You don’t know how much I want you.”

That was it. She spun around in his embrace, dug her fingers deep into his curls, and planted her mouth on his. He pressed into her, her back against the door, and they devoured each other, starving, dying for each other. His teeth, his lips, his tongue, were all over hers, biting, sucking, licking; his hands grasped at her face, her hair, a drowning man fighting for a lifeline, and she knew she would die for a taste of his skin next to hers. In the hotel hallway, she let go of his curls, reaching for his jacket, underneath, and for the third time in a day, slipped her hands under his shirt, felt the hot, hard skin there, and he gasped in her mouth, and she choked on tears that threatened to bubble up in her throat.

“Oh, fuck, Sadie, open the goddamn door,” he whispered into her mouth. “Hurry.”

Sadie tore her mouth from his, and, trembling from head to toe, breath ragged, rammed the key into the slot and flung open the door, Josh at her heels.

“Hey, Sadie!”

They stopped halfway in the door.

Liz was home.

Liz.

She saw her friend round the corner to the short hallway, her smile, her head cock, prepare to ask “who’s this,” and then her eyes widen in recognition. Sadie whirled around, shoved JC bodily out into the hallway, and slammed the door behind them.

“You have to go.”

“What? Sadie, please, let’s just go to my place--”

Sadie thought for a moment, feeling the door handle jiggle under her hand. If she went with him, she’d have to let go of the door, and then Liz would chase after them; if she stayed, she would surely die of sexual frustration.

The handle jerked under her grip.

“I’m sorry, oh, god, you don’t know how sorry I am, Josh,” she said, and he reached for her, cupped her face. “But I have to talk to my roommate.”

His whole body sagged, and his eyes, afire with desire, locked on hers. “Please, Sadie.”

He was saying please to her. Oh, fuck. Oh, god.

“Call me,” she whispered, fighting to keep the tears at bay, kissed him one last time, and threw herself back inside the room.

“WHAT THE FU--” Liz shouted, and Sadie clapped her hand over her mouth, eyes warning her to shut the fuck up or risk losing a few teeth. Liz nodded, eyes wide, and Sadie pushed her onto the couch.

“Sh,” she said sharply.

Liz nodded.

“What the hell’s goin’ on?” Dan asked, exiting the bathroom and brushing a towel over his damp hair. “You guys fighting or something?”

Sadie crept back to the door and peeked through the peephole.

He was gone.

Tears streamed down her face as she ran back to Liz and threw herself down, curling into the fetal position.

“OK, if you do NOT tell me what the fuck is going on--”

“I fucked up. Oh, man, I fucked up so bad--”

“What’s going on?!?”

Liz looked at Sadie, eyebrows raised.

“I met him last night.”

“Met who?” Dan asked.

Liz’s mouth dropped open. “Is that really--”

Sadie nodded weakly, hiccuping.

“Who?” Dan asked.

“Were you guys KISSING?”

Sadie nodded again, started a fresh crying bout.

“WHO?!?”

“JC Chasez!” they both shouted at Dan, after a moment, his eyes widened.

“You mean the guy from--”

“Yes!” they shouted.

“Whoa.”

Liz turned her attention back to Sadie, rubbing her arm. “what the hell happened? What’s with all the tears? Give me details!”

“I can’t talk about it,” Sadie said. “Just that he doesn’t know I know who he is and I can’t fuck this up because he is so incredibly awesome that if I weren’t a completely rational person I would think I want to marry him or something.”

“Whoa.”

“Are you serious?”

“Do I look serious? We spent the whole night talking last night, getting drunk and all, and then we went for a drive today, and we were coming back here, but you were here, and...”

“Holy shit.”

“Should we go?”

“No,” Sadie said, getting up from the bed and wiping her face on her sleeve. “I probably fucked it up, anyway.”

Sadie wandered into the bedroom, mind in a whirl. God, he wanted her. A lot. And she wanted him more than she’d ever wanted anyone in her life.

Love him, her heart whispered. But no. She couldn’t think about that.

Sadie lay on the bed, arm over her eyes, praying that she hadn’t royally fucked things up, as she’d told Liz. Her breathing evened, and she struggled to find sleep.

A tap at the door roused her.

“What?”

Liz’s head poked through the door, eyes big as saucers. Couldn’t anyone look at her normally anymore?

“Telephone for you,” Liz whispered. Sadie ‘s heart leaped. “It’s JOSH.”

“I’ll take it in here,” she said, swallowing. Liz nodded.

“We’re going to... um... go for a walk or something.”

“OK. Thanks, Liz. Tell anyone and I’ll kill you.”

Liz laughed as she closed the door.

Sadie picked up the phone.

“Hello?”

“We need to move to the desert,” the voice grumbled into her ear. She laughed.

“Yeah, we don’t seem to be having much luck, do we? Maybe the universe is telling us something.”

“I think the universe is telling us we just need to try harder,” he said, and she shivered. God, his voice sounded good.

“So are you alone now?”

Sadie got up from the bed, peeked into the living room. Liz and Dan were gone.

“Yep.”

“Then can we finish what we started in the hallway?”

Sadie sucked in air. “Do you want to come over--”

“No,” he said, laughing. “I’m not going through that again.”

“Well, how--oh.” Sadie swallowed.

“So tell me what you look like right now.”

Sadie looked in the mirror and giggled. She looked like hell, hair mussed, face red from crying.

“I look like hell,” she told him. “My hair is messed up--looks like I just slept on it for four days--and my nose and cheeks are all pink.”

“That sounds adorable.”

“Josh, I don’t know about this--”

“Sadie, listen to me. You’ve been driving me nuts for the past twenty-four hours with your gorgeous body and the way your hair curls in your face and everything else and I think you at least owe me this.”

“I owe you this?”

“And don’t tell me you’ve never thought about doing this before.”

Sadie laughed. She’d written a half dozen erotica scenes of phone sex.

She could do this.

“Let me get comfortable first,” she said, and lay down on the bed.

“Don’t get undressed yet,” he said. “Tell me what you’re doing as it happens.”

Sadie closed her eyes. “Right now, I’m imagining you in front of me. You’re standing beside the bed, staring at me through hooded eyelids. You’re wearing that turtleneck you wore last night, and it’s untucked all the way around, and you kneel in front of me.”

She heard his breath catch. “Go on.”

“I’m sitting up now, in front of you, and you run your hands along my thighs, and up my sides, pushing my sweater off over my head.”

“Your skin feels hot and soft, and you gasp when I touch you.”

Sadie did gasp then. “Hang on a second.” She put the phone in the crook of her shoulder, and slid her hands along her sides, her sensitive, soft, hot skin there, and pulled her sweater over her head.

“Are you still wearing your bra?”

“Yes.”

“Good. what do I do next?”

Sadie touched her thighs with her right hand, scraping her fingernails against the denim of her jeans, and kicked off her shoes. “I kick off my shoes while you kiss my collarbone.”

“You skin smells amazing, but can we please get on with this? I can’t last much longer here.”

Sadie blushed. “You’re not getting ahead of me, are you?”

“No, but I still have my damn pants on.”

She laughed. “Fair enough. OK. You stand up in front of me and while you pull your shirt off, I reach forward and unbuckle your belt, unbutton your jeans and push them down just a bit, so I can see the line of your hip. I lean forward and kiss you there, right at your hipbone, and you taste salty.”

Josh gasped. “Oh, man.”

“I push your jeans down to your ankles, and I can see you outlined against your boxer briefs, and I can see how much you want me.”

“Mm-hmm.”

Sadie smiled. He sounded like someone was strangling him.

“I lean back and unzip my own jeans, and I pull them off--”

“And then I dive on you because I can’t wait any more. God, Sadie, you’re so beautiful--I can see every soft curve in your body, and I want to touch all of you--”

“I take my bra off because I can’t wait for you to do it, and your hands are all over me--”

Sensation rushed through her as she imagined his body over hers, his hands tugging and pushing at every inch of skin on her body--

“And your breasts are gorgeous, full and round, and I take one in my mouth--”

Sadie pinched her nipple and gasped, and saw his lips touch her--

“And I watch you draw circles with your tongue, and I can feel you grinding against me--”

“I push my hips closer to you, and god, you feel so good, all heat and warmth down there, and oh, Sadie, I really don’t want to wait--”

“Are you touching yourself right now, Josh? Tell me.”

He gasped. “I am. I feel your hand wrap around me, and you’re stroking me, and oh you feel so good, and please tell me you’re touching yourself, too, Sadie, oh god, tell me--”

Sadie slipped her finger beneath the line of her panties and gasped at the wet heat down there; she’d never gotten so wet in her life, and her clit throbbed beneath her finger. “Oh, yes, I’m so wet, Josh, I’ve never been this wet before, I want to feel you inside me so bad--”

“I want to kiss you there, to lick you, and put my finger inside you--”

Sadie moaned as her finger moved faster, gathering electricity.

“Do that for me, Sadie, put your finger inside and tell me how it feels--”

“It’s hot, Josh, so hot, and the walls are tight, and I can feel everything, but I put in a second finger, and I’m touching my clit, too, and oh, my god--”

“You do, you feel so good, and I push inside of you, all the way, and oh, god, you’re pulling at me, and I’m so hard right now, oh fuck, Sadie, I want to come with you, I want to wait for you, tell me when you’re going to come--”

Sadie’s head spun with the sensations rocketing through her, the sounds of his voice, heavy and strangled and breathy in her ear, the image of him stroking himself for her, his elegant fingers moving over his cock, the idea of him filling her, inside her, their bodies rocking together, and she felt the heat collect under her finger, gathering strength, and she held her breath--

“Oh, god, Josh, I’m coming, I’m coming now, please come with me--”

And through the phone she heard him gasp out her name, and stars blinded her as her body tensed, and her torso came off the bed, her buttocks tight, her toes curling into cramps, and then she lay on the bed, gasping, mind blank, phone cradled by her ear.

“Sadie...” a voice came through the phone from a great distance. She lifted it to her ear, leaning her head into it so she wouldn’t have to expend any more energy than necessary.

“What, baby?” she sighed.

“I... I don’t think I’ve ever come that hard before by myself.”

An aftershock jarred her body and she sucked air in through her teeth. “You weren’t by yourself,” she said, and wondered at the purring, deep tone in her throat.

“No, I wasn’t,” he said. “I need to see you. Soon. Alone.”

“Mm-hmm.”

“I’m going to go shower now,” he said. “And I’ll be thinking of you.”

Sadie smiled.

“Will you go shower for me, too? Go take a long, hot shower and think about me?”

“Josh,” Sadie sighed. “I don’t think I’ll be thinking of anything else for a long time.”
