Part 6:
"Good evening, Erin," the sheriff said, tipping his hat as he walked into the hotel.
"Nick! I thought you were coming at 6."
"It’s five after."
"Oh . . . goodness, I didn’t even realize. I guess I got so wrapped up in work . . . oh, let me go get Mama. I’ll be right back," she said in a rush and hurried off. He watched her go, smiling to himself. That was one of the things he admired about Erin, her work ethic. After her father died, she and her mother had turned his dream of owning a hotel into a reality, mostly due to Erin’s determination.
Anna walked into the saloon, slowly taking in her surroundings. She didn’t expect much trouble here. This town was "outlaw friendly" and for that she was glad. She wondered who the new sheriff was. She shook her head and stepped up to the bar. A large man stepped her way. "What can I get for you this evening, ma’am?"
Anna was slightly off guard for a moment. No one had ever called her ma’am before. She shook it off and looked at the man. "Whiskey," she demanded gruffly. He nodded and poured a glass before turning to the next customer. A door opened and two women came out of a back room, presumably the kitchen. One was cradling a baby in her arms. The other had a little girl by her hand. Anna was surprised to see children in a saloon, but then she looked around again and realized that while the sign above the door of the Gold Bar might say it was a saloon, it was really more of a restaurant. There were no card games going on, no arguments, and no easy women making themselves available to the men. ‘That must explain why there’s a whore house at the end of town . . . no competition,’ she thought to herself.
Katie gulped and Angel jumped a little as the man stepped in the doorway. Chris looked at the mayor’s daughter in shock. "Please don’t tell my parents I’m here," Katie squealed. Chris didn’t reply, just kept looking around the room.
He finally found his voice and looked at Angel. "I have some news for you, Angel. He’s here." Angel gasped and started trembling. She went limp in her chair just as the door opened again.
"What the hell did you do to her?" Justin growled at the lawyer before going to Angel. He and Beckie managed to wake her up and she clung to Justin, shaking. Her already pale skin was absolutely white.
"Oh, God, Justin . . . he’s here . . ."
Justin cursed under his breath. "I won’t let him hurt you, I promise you that . . ."
Katie watched it all with wide eyes. The lawyer was still standing there, looking shocked. "Angel?" she said softly, frightened by all the commotion. Anything that could shake Angel up so badly must be terrifying.
Justin looked up and blinked, seeing that Katie was in the room for the first time. Angel smiled weakly. "Katie, sugar, I want you to meet my brother, Justin. Justin, say hello to Katie."
"Hello, Katie," Justin said automatically. He took his hat off and studied her. He nodded once, apparently having decided something, and turned back to Angel.
Chris stepped over beside Katie. "I won’t tell your parents I caught you here, but you better get home. NOW." Katie nodded and said a hasty good-bye to Beckie and Angel. She started for the door but stopped cold at the voice she heard.
"Good evening, Mr. Mayor," Luke said. "Miss Beckie will be right with you. Why don’t you go on up." He started to argue but Luke stood up and the mayor simply nodded and went upstairs to wait in Beckie’s room.
Katie breathed a sigh of relief. "Miss Chasez, I suggest you get yourself home before your Daddy finds out you’re here," Luke said. Katie nodded and darted out the door, practically running home. She arrived just in the nick of time. She had been in her room for less than five minutes when she heard her mother and Amanda come in.
After making sure Angel was fine, Beckie hurried to her room. She found him there, sitting on the edge of her bed. He had taken his boots and tie off. She closed the door and flipped the lock, smiling softly. " I didn’t expect to see you tonight, Josh."
"I needed to be with you," he said, wrapping his arms around her waist and pressing his face against her stomach. She ran her fingers lightly through his hair. His hands were busily working to get the ties of her robe loose. When he succeeded, he pushed the light fabric aside and kissed her stomach through the flimsy fabric of her night gown. Beckie shrugged out of her robe and began tugging at his jacket. Getting the point, Josh sat up straight and pulled it off. They worked together to get his vest unbuttoned. Beckie slid his suspenders off his shoulders and pushed him back on the bed, straddling him as they kissed.
Josh grabbed the hem of her nightgown, lifting it up. Beckie helped him pull it over her head then concentrated on getting his shirt and pants off. Once Beckie got him undressed, Josh flipped her onto her back, kissing his way down her throat to her breasts. "Ah, Beck, I want you so bad . . ."
"I know, Josh." She moaned softly as he teased her with his fingers while swirling his tongue around her nipples. He moved back up to her mouth, kissing her soundly as he plunged inside her. Beckie arched up under him, wrapping her legs around him and scratching lightly at his back, careful not to leave a mark. He moved slowly at first but got faster the closer he got. Beckie let herself go in the sensations that washed over her. It wasn’t long before she went over the edge, exploding into orgasm. He came with a groan, filling her and collapsing on top of her. Josh kissed her softly got dressed, leaving to go home to Sarah. Beckie sighed and closed her eyes. If only . . .
