Ch 2:
Ch 2:

Melissa hung up her phone and just sat there a moment.
Sometimes, she still couldn’t believe that Josh was hers, that he loved HER. He could have any girl on the
planet he wanted… and he wanted her. She smiled at the thought.

Melissa glanced down at her watch. ‘Wow,’ she thought. ‘Only 9:15 in the morning. I don’t even have
to be at the junket till 10… and it’s only 15 minutes
away.’

She decided to just stay on the bench and relax for a while.  Looking to her left, Melissa could see
the Eiffel Tower off in the distance.  The idea that she was being paid to be in Paris for 2 weeks was
still rather surreal to her.

‘Choosing to be a PR agent was probably one of the best choices I have ever
made in my life,’ she thought.

Her job had brought so much into her life… including Josh.

Melissa worked at one of the most prestigious PR Firms in LA.  She’d only been working there about 3
months when she first met Josh.  Normally, Melissa’s job had her working with movie studios, producers, and
the like. In fact, the ‘N Sync project had been her first assignment on the music side of the industry.
She had tried to act professional when her boss had assigned her the project… he certainly didn’t need to
know that ‘N Sync was her favorite band since… well, ever! In her initial meetings, she only interacted
with their manager and a rep from Jive Records. It was in the third meeting that she finally got the
opportunity to meet the guys themselves.  An opportunity that had changed her whole life. She would
never forget the moment he’d walked into the room. She knew him as JC back then, and he was by far the most
amazingly gorgeous man she’d ever laid eyes on. She had already had a minor crush on him from seeing him
in pictures and on TV… but seeing him in person was a whole new thing. Pictures and TV screens had not done
him justice. His eyes were like blue pools she just wanted to dive into. They had said her name 3 times
that day to get her attention… she’d been staring at him. It was rather embarrassing actually, she hadn’t
meant to be so obvious about it! Nonetheless, she pulled herself together and got right down to
business. Melissa was to be their PR agent for their charity event, Challenge for the Children. She was
setting up all the press conferences, TV interviews and the various other promotions. To this day, she
still considered that project to be the best of her career. Not because of ‘N Sync, but because it was the
first thing she’d ever done for charity. It felt wonderful to do something that was helping someone
else, instead of just promoting movies and such.

In the month she spent working that project, Josh and
Melissa had become quite good friends… though Melissa felt much more for him than simply friendship. She had
fallen head over heels in love with him. So much so that the night before the event she had cried herself
asleep at the thought of all of it ending. The next day, however, after the event was over, Josh asked to
speak to her. He told her he had developed feelings for her, and then he had kissed her. They’d been
together ever since… and that was almost exactly a year ago. It hadn’t always been easy, their schedules
and careers made it really hard sometimes. But at the same time, they both understood the business and what
came along with it; even if they understood for different reasons. They loved each other… so what else
mattered?

The sound of a beeping car horn startled Melissa out of her little trip down memory lane. She checked her
watch again, 9:35.  She stood and began the journey toward her long day at work.
