In 1956, there was a powerful sex attractant called pheromones for silkworm moths. A group of German researchers took 20 years to isolate it.

In animals the relationship between mating and pheromones is straightforward. For instance, sea urchins release pheromones into the surrounding water, releasing a chemical message that alerts other urchins in the area to release their sex cells simultaneously.

A chemically pure pheromone was devised called “bombykol” for the silkworm moth, “Bomby mori” from where it was such an attraction.
