Following Nephi

Lost in fantasies and freedoms
Of an ancient world
I run through the words
Picking up speed with each sentence
Digesting the story
Engulfed
Will Nephi be set free?
Will he calm the storm?
My heart pounding
As if I was in the boat
And then, like an unexpected twist
A little black bug invades the page
Running against the grain
At first glance I thought
It was just run-away ink
A comma that lost its place
But soon realized it was only a nuisance
I tried to focus on the words
On Nephi
But like a rodeo clown he danced and somersaulted
Drawing my attention
To the top, the footnotes,
Left page, right page…
SLAM!

I couldn’t take it anymore
Nephi long gone, lost
Behind the little black bug.
Until I opened the book again
And found Nephi
With a new dot above his “i”.
