United Against War

The four peace doves above represent "all ages," "all disabilities, "all "social classes" and "all races".

This flyer is in regards to a place I have independent ly chosen to call T.U.L.I.P.. Those acronym stands for "The Untitled (because Love is forgiving, and I, T.v.L.i.m.i.t. only want the reputation of this place to be positive) Independent Place."

The four peace doves includes "all ages, including the elderly", "all disabilities", including people in wheelchairs who currently have zero access to all four letterpresses and the blind who have zero access to all four T.U.L.I.P. computers (because T.U.L.I.P. does not have visually challenged screen-access software for even one computer). This also includes "all social classes" and "all races" which includes extremely low income non-English speaking people who have zero access to T.U.L.I.P. because T.U.L.I.P. has no foreign language "welcome" brochures, workshops or alternate language webpages with T.U.L.I.P. information.

On behalf of all people who believe in equality, and on behalf of my fellow disadvantaged residents of Portland, Oregon who need wonderful places like T.U.L.I.P., I will no longer "sugar coat" the equality problems in the T.U.L.I.P.

I have begged for them to have a meeting about equality but was ignored. Last week, some unknown person even ripped down my bright yellow poster (on which I requested T.U.L.I.P. and its members to have a meeting to discuss the many, many "inequality" issues in T.U.L.I.P.. I searched the lost & found box but it wasn't there. I took a lot of time to decorate that poster with hand cut deep blue butterflies and hearts from velvet-like paper.) T.U.L.I.P. is now passing out a small yellow flyer which says they plan to "celebrate" the same changes and renovations which I have been asking them to reconsider. Where is the justice?! I thought civilized, rational people were supposed to discuss inequality, racism, ageism, classism & lack of accessibility? When will it happen in T.U.L.I.P.? Can you tape record the meeting so all members can know where you stand? v Do you realize (according to T.U.L.I.P. Director who I asked) there are no Asian-Americans, Latino-Americans or African-Americans on T.U.L.I.P.'s staff?

The official definition of staff (according to the director) is : a volunteer or paid staff member who opens or closes T.U.L.I.P.. Do you realize (according to the paid staff who answered my questions) there are no Asian-Americans or Latino-Americans on T.U.L.I.P. volunteer board? Do you realize that if a non-English speaking person who spoke only a Slavic, Asian or Spanish language came to T.U.L.I.P., T.U.L.I.P. would have to say "Sorry, no offense, but we can't provide you with service. Please come back in the far future when we may be racially diversified"? Yet, our beautiful rose city has such a large population of each of those races that all 3 of those cultures has a free, advertisement supported, full color cover, weekly newspaper. And where are the elderly? We have at least 3 newspapers for the elderly in our diverse rose city. And where are the disabled? Do you honestly think that's all a coincidence? Do you honestly think its all just a mistake? If it’s a mistake, when will the IPRC work to correct it? And why won't they discuss it in a meeting open to the public?

You see, for the past four weeks I have spoken to the IPRC in a sugar coated manner about the RACISM, CLASSISM, AGEISM and lack of accessibility that is all throughout T.U.L.I.P.. They keep saying "we'll see" about planning multi-cultural open house (not just "open house") days at the T.U.L.I.P.. They keep saying "we'll see" about permanently keeping set-up just 2 long tables (instead of the current 1) in the workshop ... ...for over a month. Now they're going to "celebrate" those changes? Perhaps my prior sugar coated words caused people to be confused about the gravity of these issues. Please accept my apology if that was the case.

I have now chronicled and detailed the 2 month ordeal in an unabridged, unsugarcoated news article at

http://portland.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=53331

or you can see an abridged version of this article in a zine at

I have been requesting an "inequality" meeting in a spirit of love and peace. Now, T.U.L.I.P. is actually going to "celebrate" the same changes & renovations which I've been telling them are discriminating against minorities, the elderly, the disabled & members of extremely limited income social classes who shouldn't have to have be cramped in the workshop like government ghettos while most of the other T.U.L.I.P. rooms have luxurious spaciousness, swivel chairs and even more than one kick-your-feet-out sofa chairs. A brand new art gallery was even created before the accessibility problems were solved. .

I'm placing this on the T.U.L.I.P. library table, right next to that stack of small yellow flyers that talk about "celebrating" the "new changes". I ask that no one throw this in the trash. No offense, I realize many people who read this won't care about the inequalities, but please don't hinder the equality process by throwing away these flyers. Out of respect for the seriousness of these issues, please keep these flyers here until April 29th, which is the 2003 Holocaust Remembrance Day.

If you want to be really helpful, print some more of these flyers out. They are at http://angelfire.com/poetry/love2020/1UnitedAgainstWar.html . Rational people should be able to compromise, realize and (at the very least) "minimize" racism, ageism, classism & lack of accessibility where ever it is found in the world. Hopefully, all races, ages, social classes, and disabled people, united, hand-in-hand, can stop all wars, can stop the inhumane political budget cuts and can stop the many criminal inequalities that plague our entire planet. How can all races, ages, disabled people and social classes unite to solve the major issue like war and starvation when we don't discuss the small issues?
