One Hundred Hats

Welcome to the One Hundred Hat Memorial Site. Since the autumn of 2003, I've been knitting hats in memory of soldiers and civilians who have died in the conflict in Iraq.

I began the project by knitting hats for friends and family. As the war progressed through its first year, I realized that events in Iraq were having a significant impact on friends and families all over the world. For me, these hats are a reminder of the physicality of war, and the hats give people an opportunity to communicate with those who have lost loved ones.

I'm asking people to wear these hat, keep their own heads warm, and be a walking memorial to a fellow human being who died in Iraq.
