Let the Shade be the Shadow

And yet sometimes I close my eyes

To see that blooming flower,

And yet sometimes I feel the skies

Led to, in the hour of jar.

Ne’er did I know the pleasure of stroll

Till that finger taught me how,

And never had I known the joy of talk

Till I was dextered to move my jaw.

Today I stand, today I walk,

Today I debate, today I talk,

But yet today I want to learn

The lessons I once had just begun.

The lessons I once had just begun

Had not been so much dear,

Not that time, not later still;

But today, when I have my fear,

The trail I trac’d, the destiny I craved,

It seems is moving farther still,

And yet I am but standing there:

At the zenith and down the hill;

Save me, come rescue, and give me support,

You are to aid, and not to retort;

Make me the joy, thy had been for me,

Let the shade be the shadow, and the seedling the tree!
