Poetry isn’t just a hobby. It’s a way of thinking and a way of approaching life. The crating of verse and the composition of literature – indeed the very thought processes that create these things – have produced some of the world’s best philosophic traditions as well as the most touching stories and visions of human idealism we have ever known. Together with the patterning of meaningful sound in music, lyrical verse gives birth to song. Song gives birth to culture, and culture to history. Poetry is the lifeblood of human experience, and the poetry of that experience we relate to our children as history.
So, please, do enjoy the poetry on this site. But remember, it’s more than just a pastime or a means of entertainment. It’s a way of encapsulating the great themes of our human experience. It calls up our living memory from the past, and beckons us onward to the future.
