My name is Victor Levant. I am a psychotherapist with a private practice. A graduate of the Gestalt Counselling and Training Center of Montreal, my training comprises three years of personal therapy, four years of therapeutic bodywork and stress management, followed by a three year formal Gestalt Training Program for Professionals in the Social and Human Sciences with parallel work in art therapy.
My central focus has been Gestalt, the foundation of humanistic psychology in North America. This approach is holistic, client-centered and generally non-directive in nature. Self-knowledge, self-acceptance, self-expression, self-responsibility and self-support in inter-dependence are the goals. Gestalt therapy may imply short term crisis management, long term treatment of trauma or personal exploration.
I have been teaching the philosophy of holistic health and the principles of Gestalt psychology at John Abbott College in the Department of Humanities for the last ten years. I designed three courses, Wellness, Human Potential Bodymind and Communication, Self and Society. The first course addresses the issues of anorexia, bulimia, communication, emotionial distress, divorce, drugs, grief, heartache, loneliness, sexual identity, sexual abuse, stress reduction, suicide and the search for meaning. The second course looks at the role of effort, emotion, instinct, personal perception and intuition in the creative process. The third addresses the problems and solutions of interpersonal communication and conflict.
My formal clinical training centered on the themes of grief and psycho-somatic illness, anger and depression, anxiety and panic sibling rivalry and family relations, committment and the fear of intimacy, rejection and rage, vulnerability and childhood trauma, helplessness and self-support.
My office is in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, a 10 minute walk from Metro Vendôme.
