Everyone sat in silence for a moment, watching the little blue light
flash. No one could speak, the silence palpable. Breaking the nerve I
shrugged and leaned back. "Well, hey, at least it’s not Adoncia. She’d
freak out." I looked over at her. Both she and mom were staring at the
floor with their chests noiselessly heaving with nervous anger.

Mom’s head whipped to the side, staring at me with red coals for eyes,
"You, you have lived in my house, sat at my table, hugged me. I should
have known, you- you with your subcultured attitude, your soft spot for
clones…" she ran out of words.

Mr. Williams spoke, "Because she has lived in your house this long, and
she is technically yours at this point, you may decide what to do
with her. The usual punishment for human impersonation is that the she and
all her clones would be sent to the nearest mine, but I understand that
you might be attached to her at this point."

Adoncia spoke quietly, "Mother, I refuse to have that in my
house."

I was outraged. "Human impersonation? I didn’t even know
that I was a clone! How could I impersonate a human when I think I am one?
Don’t you think that would be a little difficult?"

Mom spoke, "I want you to charge her with human impersonation. We all
know that clones know that they aren’t human."

I stood up quickly, starting to speak in my own defense, and then the
world exploded into the back of my skull and everything went very dark.
The last thing I heard was Adoncia saying, "Twins watch out for twins… to
think, all this time, I was watching out for a clone."
