Pain

A steady roll of thunder, a darkened stormy night
A streaking bolt of lightning, across a moonless sky
A woman lying motionless, torn, frozen on the ground
Staring at her bleeding wrists, afraid to make a sound
She doesn’t know just where to go, or even what to do
There isn’t any other way, to handle loving you.
She tears herself apart inside, with guilt, remorse, regret
Telling herself the lies you told her, over and over again
Hours pass, afraid to move, afraid of what comes next
Afraid of the next thought of you, she’ll lose what she has left
Months and years now come and gone
The thought of you and pain lives on.
