April Burial
Swallowed by these shadows
My head upon the pillow
The blanket around me feels as if it’s ripped
And I’m enfolded in this night’s dark eternal crypt
I awoke in the dark to find you gone
I reached for your pillow and it was cold
You’ve been gone awhile; if you were even there at all
I awoke from my dream screaming
Rolled over and you were there still asleep
I reached out to touch you and found you quite well
Swallowed by these shadows
My head upon the pillow
I saw the stars slide slowly down the wall
Until they too were gone
April’s moon looks like a smiling skull
Breathing pestilence down upon the sea
As his face fills with the blood of war
I awoke in the dark to find you gone
I reached for your pillow and it was cold
You’ve been gone awhile; if you were even there at all
April’s moon looks like a smiling skull
A harbinger of death
Crying
I awoke in the night to find you gone
I reached for your pillow and it was cold
I awoke in the night to find you gone
And you’re still gone
