writing ideas
Look me in the eye and tell me you've never just sat there staring at a blank screen or paper and waited endlessly for a good story idea to occur to you. Alas, many a brave but stubborn writer has wasted their night away, locked in combat with the age-old scourge of writer's block. It would be nice to have a collection of story ideas on hand to consult at such times.

What story ideas you might ask?

How about the idea of an embittered hero, exiled to a desert island for refusing to gulp down the tyrant's lies, finally accepting the fact that his days of adventures are over, when what should he find but a message in a bottle telling the story of all his exploits and great deeds but in the name of another. Imagine his fury as each bottle he discovers in the following weeks tells more of his story, his struggle, and the namesake of another takes all the credit. Someone had been taking note all the while, and what a treacherous fiend they were! This blatant mockery of his sacrifice quickly overcomes all his resistances, even as he was coming to grips with what would have been a very honorable retirement. Oh, the outrage of having someone steal your life away; you can no longer sleep at night. Of course the hero escapes off of the island, finding new strength at the thought of silencing this parasite. So it begins. Ah, it has many endings, from tragic and catastrophic to glorious and redeeming. But that is up for the author to decide. As for the beginning, the setting of the stage; there it is. I offer it freely.

Or the idea that the protagonist, a lowly god or mysterious fellow, has to take up the business of creating an amusement park for the rich and famous. Envisioning attractions that would become the talk of the known world, the architect travels the world collecting exotic marvels and foreign secrets. There would be a whole section devoted to amusing the very valiant, such as the knights of the court. A maze perhaps, filled with adventures and hundreds of riddles, utilizing the mysteries of faraway civilizations to dazzle and keep them guessing. The architect would become swathed in mystery himself, the collector of perilous eccentricities and brainchild behind the most insidious dungeons. Surely, only the best champion from the land would dare face the enchanted halls of the labyrinth...yet they would come, hundreds, thousands, vying for glory and excitement. Hahahahaha! Fools! Did you think the architect wished for fame alone? Why stop there when the movers and shakers of the world clamor for their chance and hang upon his sleeve. In that gordian web of politics and intrigues could not a very clever protagonist, a lowly god or mysterious fellow, take his advantage and seize the reins that steer the world? Perhaps rather he is the antagonist, or maybe save his evil streak for the final twist.

I'll collect these story ideas for a while. Again, they're completely for the aid of the blocked writer and are original. Should anyone have ideas of their own which they could stand parting with, I'd be happy to discuss them. Discussing stories are almost funner than writing them, after all.
