Drama

American Drama is literature intended to be performed. It began during the 17th century and still continues today.

American Drama initially reflected British influence. The literature was based on the mannerisms of the high class. It wasn't until the early 20th century that American Drama based itself more on realism making the characters more believable. This type of realism also unveils the inner lives of the character(s).

Today, realism still dominates in both comedic and tragic American Drama. Topics such as race, gender, death, and sexuality have become the basis of American Drama literature.
