Our Daily Bread 11/17/06

Good Day Everyone,

I love the passage of Psalm 119:97-104. It is like the author read my mind and emotions every time I read God's word. I love poetry, I love goodness, I love all that is righteous, but nothing can compare with God's word. It is honey for my soul. It is righteousness being poured into every fiber within me.

I have been listening to the "Focus on the Family" radio this week. It has all been about Orphans throughout the world in need of good family homes. For the last two days I have listened to a former street child, Stephanie Fast who tells of her heart wrenching story. She was put on the street by her mother. Stephanie, considered no good because of her being a Korean half breed, half Korean and half American. She was only 1 year old. She lived on the streets of Korea for 7 years and only God knows how she made it. In the end she tells of a Christian missionary couple found her and adopted her from an Orphanage. She tells the compelling story of restoration she finally made at 15 when her adopted father saw a concern in her soul. You see, she never got over the fact that she felt worthless and no good. Even though she gave her heart to God and was baptized at a young age, she never saw Jesus for what He really came for. Her father told her Jesus came here not to just save her soul, but to live a lowly and often times despised life. He took our sins and was chastised for us to set us free. With this Stephanie finally knew how much God loved her. She knew Jesus felt the pain we feel, knew what it was like to be ridiculed and finally crucified by the very same people He came to love.

Have you every been in a place of such isolation, evil, treachery, confusion, hurt? Begin to read God's word, examine and know how much you are loved. Know how much God has to offer. Begin a new life by reading His word.

Love and blessings.

Psalm 119:97-104 (New International Version)

m Mem 97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. 98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.

99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.

100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.

101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.

102 I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me.

103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

Word Hunger

READ: Psalm 119:97-104

As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby. —1 Peter 2:2

I had just completed a night of Bible conference ministry in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was chatting with some of the people who had attended. At the end of the line was a young man in his twenties. He shared with me that he had been a Christ-follower for only about 4 months, and he was eager to learn more of the teachings of the Bible. I referred him to the RBC Web site with the Discovery Series topics as one possible resource for his personal study.

The next night the young man returned to the conference and shared that he had stayed up until 3:30 reading and processing the biblical truths he discovered in that online resource. With a big smile on his face, he declared that he just couldn’t get enough of God’s Word (1 Peter 2:2).

What spiritual hunger! That excited young man is a reminder to us of the wonder of the Bible and its heart-enriching truths. It’s all too easy for us to ignore God’s Book in a world filled with voices screaming for our attention. But only in the Bible can we find God’s wisdom for our struggles, God’s answers for our questions, and God’s truths for our understanding. These truths are worth hungering for. —Bill Crowder
