A Sailor's Gift

By HM 1 Michael "Doc" Felton

Though I have seen both storms and gales

The times that I have spent at sea

The loving wind that fill my sails

Was the woman waiting home for me

Those long dark nights I stood my watch

While she was left on shore alone

I hope she knows my heart was caught

I'd left it there with her at home

For every time our lines were heaved

Her heart was left to sit and wait

I can't imagine or believe

Her love for me could be so great

These ship's I've sailed for months on end

While she stared lonely from the shore

Across the waves the love she sent

Would see me safely home once more

From foreign shores I'd send my love

At home for me she burned the fires

To woman she's the step above

My love, my life, my one desire

And on the days when I returned

Her beauty it was waiting still

The time apart of no concern

Her love for me had iron will

The day this sailor leaves the sea

A debt of love I must repay

A thousand years will never be

A payment for a single day

So gather round so you can hear

If you should doubt God's love in life

She's waiting right there on the pier

My gift from God, my Navy wife
