The Endless Treadmill

Day in day out, the same old stuff
Sometimes gettin' up in the a.m. is kind of tough
Like an endless treadmill I can't get off of
Find just a little sanity when I take a puff
Responsibilities, deadlines that can't wait
Be here, be there, can't be late
Late fees for which may be the fate
And do it all by myself, without a mate
See all the homeless people walkin' the street
When my kid grows up, will she have enough to eat?
Keep pushin' and prayin' and try not to cheat
But I can't let all my life plans end in defeat
Work your whole life, no free time to yourself
What's left in the end? Memories on a shelf.
Must get off of this treadmill, or end up in hell
Keep on playin' this sick game, and it's your soul you'll sell
Can't keep workin' for the man, abiding by that plan
Need to find the way to "my" dreams if I can
The answer to this puzzle is something I'm not sure I know
I hope the road I'm followin' will take me where I'm tryin' to go
