practically being the operative word.
ClassicBlob, whom i like to refer to as Fred (whereas i call EvoBlob Freddy), was a sideshow act, just as EvoBlob was an attraction at a Monster Truck Show.
interestingly enough, the Evo Ep Mutant Crush, is pretty much the same intro story as Fred had in the comic books. that's right, kiddies; waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in like the 1960's, Fred Dukes was introduced into the comics when Prof. X sent the Original X-Team to let the Sideshow Freak know that he wasn't really a Freak... then he fell in love w/ Jean... blah blah blah... turned to a life of crime b/c he felt superior.... joined Mags... you can guess the story.
the big difference i've noticed betw. Classic and Evo Blob is that while both are bullies, Classic Fred isn't the Sweetheart that Evo Freddy is. Classic Fred is crude, rude, pretty lewd, rough, tough, gruff, and a jerk. but other than that, there are no real personality differences. Classic Blob is also loyal, protective, and fiercely devoted. he's also alot rowdier than Evo Freddy. i think they made these changes to Evo Freddy so that he'd be more "sympathetic" (ie we'd like him more, and identify w/ him). well, it worked, sho' nuff. the cool thing is, that they really changed so little about the character, and that he's so beleivable. not to mention the transition left "Freddy"'s "Fred"-ness intact; unlike most of the other Brothahood Boyz. Mortimer Toynbee and Todd Tolensky are two different guys (toads?), who happen to have alot in common. If they ever met (humor me here), they'd have quite a time trying to figure out who the other was (until one started showing off those lovely high jumps). Same with Lance Alvers and Dominic Petros, except they kept his personality pretty much the same. But i digress. The two Blobs are a bit different, but definitely the same guy... in a manner of speaking (versus the earlier Morty/Todd comparison).
i ♥ both of them. :)
well anyway, Fred Dukes, whatever incarnation, is the coolest person to be kicked outta Texas since Janis Joplin. ::wink::
↑ those comic book scans, however much i love them, are not mine. but the following are mine. enjoy! there are some of my all-time favorite pics of Fred here.
don't those pictures just rock your socks?
okay, if you can hear the midi file in the background, you may recognize it as Creedence Clearwater Revival's song "Fortunate Son". Why did i choose this song? Well, i'm not sure, other than the fact that i love it. Maybe because of the lyrics:
Some folks are born made to wave the flag
It ain't me, it ain't me
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
It ain't me, it ain't me
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
It ain't me, it ain't me
It ain't me, it ain't me
That fits Fred pretty well, if you ask me. Plus it's a good song.
Anyway... that's my Blob Rant for now. ::takes a bow:: Thank you and good night!

Ooh, they're red, white, and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
They point the cannon right at you
I ain't no senator's son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
Lord, dont they help themselves
But when the tax man comes to the door,
Lord the house looks like a rummage sale
I ain't no millionaire's son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
Ooh, they send you down to war
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
They only answer "More! More! More!"
I ain't no military son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
I ain't no fortunate one...
