Dark shadows
creep across
the earth,
wrapping the brightness
of day,
within the concealing cloak
of night.
When sleep beckons me,
lie down,
I battle the temptation of
slumbers call.
Pacing, pacing from wall
to wall.
I dare not, dare not heed
this need.
I dare not sleep, for in sleep
I dream
And what I dream is not
a dream,
but soon becomes realities
final breath
for those I visit when
sleep beckons.
