Secret In The Attic

(Opening)
Secret in the attic, has been replaced,
One day I found there, a bad memory erased.
Pain and shame are gone now, peace and love remain,
A message I found there, that took away the pain.
(Story)
I went up to the attic, a little note I found,
It was nothing fancy, just something jotted down.
I recognized the handwritting, but Dad now was dead,
I gently opened the paper, so surprised by what it said.
Dad had written a little note to each of us kids,
He wanted us to know, he was sorry for what he had did.
I was fighting back the tears, as I read each and every word,
My sisters and brother would think this was absurd.
They would not believe a man, who seemed so big and strong,
Would write to his children, an apology for all the wrong.
I dried my tears, and looked up to heaven with a smile,
I knew it was all going to be okay, after a while.
Just a little while longer, and the confusion would be erased,
Since the secret in the attic, had been replaced.
The power of forgiveness, can reach out beyond the grave,
Especially for a man, who was so very brave.
This last act of will, given by our Dad,
Would heal all the hatred, and no one would be sad.
Through the floors of heaven, the healing would flow,
Leaving no place of darkness, for the secret to go.
(Closing)
Secret in the attic, has been replaced,
One day I found there, a bad memory erased.

A message I found there, that took away the pain.

As the snow flies.
On a cold and grey Chicago morn' another liitle baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mother cries ( in the ghetto )
'Cause if there's one thing that she don't need,
it's another little hungry
mouth to feed In the ghetto
Now people don't you understand The child needs a helping
hand
Or he'll grow up to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me Are we too blind to see
Or do we just turn our heads and look the other way
As the world turns
and a hungry little child with a runny nose plays in the streets
as the cold wind blows
And his hunger burns
So he starts to roam the streets at night and he learns how to steal
and he learns how to fight In the ghetto
And then one night in desperation A young man breaks away
He buys a gun steals a car tries to run but he don't get far
and his mother cries
As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man face down in the street
with a gun in his hand
as her young man dies
on a cold and grey Chicago morn' another little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries
