Poem inspired by the photo below provided by Lufkin Daily News.
Written on my 23rd anniversary, as I reflected on my own marriage.
I can only imagine how Officer Logan's wife must be feeling.
Therefore, the poem is written in the first person tense.
In Memory of Officer John Logan, Huntington PD

You Will
Never Be Forgotten
By Rhonda

March 20, 2004
Smiling and laughing every day,
Never letting anything stand in the way.
Happiness in the little daily things to do,
Enjoying each moment - me and you...
Just like a dream, it tries to slip away,
I must keep you present with me today.
Keeping the memories alive with all I say and do,
Never forgetting the gift of you...
The days are long, the nights are too.
I lie awake and think of you.
I see memories of your face,
Of when you walked with me in this place.
You are carried in my heart both day and night,
I struggle against the loneliness with all my might.
Knowing you would not want me to give up the fight,
I carry on in your memories light.

Truly, you will never be forgotten.
Never forgotten: the life and death of John Logan, Huntington Police Officer, fallen in the line of duty.
Officer John Logan is gone. But his presence will always be felt in the Huntington community.
