Once A Child

The times are past but they reside in my heart,

Those long happy days when we played a part,

In each others lives.

Butterflies were floating all around so lightly,

The sun was reflecting on their wings so brightly,

Before the rain came.

The storm beat upon us and we did not have much strength left to stand,

But somehow in the darkness, you reached and you found my hand,

And we were reunited again.

The fairytales did play in my head both day and night,

I walked and danced in both the darkness and the light,

When I was a child.

Now the times are different and sometimes sadness fills the air,

I have found there is a dark side when you care,

It has been painful to grow into an adult.

For when you are an adult, the castles are not quite so tall,

And love does not always answer when you call,

Sometimes reality is such a heavy burden to bear.

Live in a dream world? What would be the use,

There would be too much to lose,

When you are an adult you realize the importance of such things.

Go back to being an innocent child? I think not,

For to go back would mean to lose all this wisdom for which I have fought,

Once A Child, wisdom was absent but now reality is my friend.

This poem is especially for Jill Justice

as she ventures into a new land of trying to find her

childhood dreams again.

Jill,

Fight the rains and storms.

Find the butterflies in the sunlight.

They are still there even in reality of adulthood.

Best of Wishes,
