Modern Day Message Brought By Santa
by Rhonda Cooley
December 20, 2003

What to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Old Saint Nick full of fear,
For He was flying all alone,
Working his fingers to the bone.

Financial crunch had hit the North Pole, too.
Poor old Santa, was left with nothing else he could do.
He had to lay off the reindeer, every one,
And for Dear St. Nick, that was no fun!

In a bind he had been caught,
So a little old airplane he had bought.
I noticed he was sweating bullets, too,
Because the presents he could carry were so few.

What few toys he could pack,
Were sitting on the wings in little stacks.
He was praying they would stay,
As along the path he made his way.

Troubled by exactly what he should do,
His worries were more than just a few.
Should Jim or Jack get the horn?
One of the boys would be left to mourn.

Just as Santa was about to cry,
A bright star shone from high in the sky.
And a voice came from heaven, too.
Telling Santa just what he should do.

Santa was sure relieved to find,
An important message he would bring to all mankind.
Heaven had informed him of the greatest gift of all,
The gift of learning, into the "Commercial Well", not to fall !

So deep runs that commercial well,
That at Christmas time it puts us all through hell.
About the gifts we cannot buy,
About all the "wants" we fail to supply.

Enlightened, Santa began to enjoy his flight,
And joy returned that Christmas night.
Santa was free of his guilt and fear,
Again, he felt the Spirit of Christmas Cheer.

Yes, indeed brought that night,
Was wisdom from heaven's light.
So found in every stocking that next morn,
Was the gift of Christmas Joy reborn.

Over the world a magical healing came,
There was no longer any shame,
About the gifts people could not buy,
About all the "wants" they had failed to supply.

Heaven sent the message from above,
Brought by Santa in an old airplane with love.
Value not just the price of the gift held in hand,
But value the gift of your fellow man !
