Peasent Love
by Don Schaeffer

I don't know
how to love grown-up like you,
grace, laughter
stretching beyond the grave,
selected for love
and to love with leisure
and joy.

I don't know how to
love like you.
My love is lumpen
like bad skin and yours
is smooth, clear,
the subject of beautiful verses.

Image

by Ron Travis

It's all about the image
capture the flesh before decay
and hope you get a few lips
planted firmly before you do

juxtapose each image
and I end up shooting everyone
in the same way
show their art
sell their wares
and mine end up in galleries
where people stare
not knowing that
I rode her till sunrise
on a sandy beach after
rubied lips
had turned pale
and I wore the lipstick
to transfer even fainter
onto her nether

I am good they say

and my pictures don't lie
they just hide the grit
of rotting days
in exposures I create
out of my own mental
haze
