Joseph and Sarah grew up in the same town, a little town near the ocean front.
Every day they would go to the shore and watch the ships come and go.
They sat on the sandy shore, playing in the sand and would share their dreams of the future.
Joseph dreamed of someday owning his own trawler and fishing the deep blue waters.
Sarah would dream of how it would be to become Joseph's wife and await his arrival back from the ship with the catch of the day.
Each day in the spring Joseph would bring Sarah lilacs from his yard. He would place them in her long flowing auburn hair.
As each day passed Joseph and Sarah grew more and more in love.
Joseph asked for her hand in marriage and of course she answered,"Yes".
Joseph was the love of her life.
On a beautiful summer day they were wed on the water front.
She wore a beautiful white sheer dress flowing to her ankles and barefoot. A beautiful young lass.
He was such a good looking lad. Hair of brown with curly locks about his face..
As she came to meet him on the sand in her shimmering white dress,
he paused to place Lilacs and purple ribbon in her hair.
They clasped their hands while the minister pronounced them husband and wife.
Their love was so real. They couldn't have been happier.
They lived in a little house on the beach.
Each day Joseph worked harder and harder for a fishing company, saving and saving for his own boat.
Finally he could buy his own boat. Thus he did.
Each day Joseph would board the trawler and dissappear into the briny deep in search of fish to make a living for his beautiful Sarah.
Each day she would look out over the horizon hoping to catch a glimpse of his trawler making its way into shore loaded with fish.
Each evening before coming into the house he would pause and pick a lilac for her hair, giving her a kiss as he placed it in her hair..
Life couldn't be better. They were so in love.
One day Joseph left early to go after his catch.
The skies looked uncertain and he wished to return early before the storm.
Sarah waited and watched for the trawler all day as the skies began to turn a dark purple and gave way to lightening and strong wind.
She was so worried about her Joseph, her love.
She walked the floor and waited, scanning the horizon for a sight of him.
No sight of him at all. Darkness came and no sign of Joseph.
Days passed and still no sign of Joseph.
Sarah was so weary, she wouldn't eat, she was so distraught.
Day after day she walked down to the beach , hoping he would appear. Nothing.
Oh where was Joseph , her love, her life?
She became so ill, so thin, so lonely. Sarah thought her life was surely over.
Without Joseph she didn't want to live. She truly, truly loved him.
She made her way to the beach every day in hopes of seeing Joseph.
Soon Sarah discovered she was with child. At last she had hope.
She knew that at least now she would have a small part of Joseph to nurture and care for.
She began to eat again and live in hope of having a little one to love and to love her.
Her baby came, a little boy, with brown curly locks. Oh the joy she felt. She named him Joseph.
As soon as she was able she carried her sweet little Joseph down to the beach and looking out over the waters told him about his handsome father and how much he would have loved him.
She noticed something floating on the beach and reached down and picked up a bottle.
Wait, there was something inside.
Inside was a very fragrant but withered stem of lilacs.
Was this a sign from above? Had an angel placed it there or was her love still alive somewhere?
I wonder!!!!

~~~~~
First the tide rushes in,
Plants a kiss on the shore.
Then rolls out to sea,
And the sea is very still once more.
So I rush to your side,
Like the oncoming tide.
With one burning thought,
Will your arms open wide.
At last we're face to face,
And as we kiss through an embrace.
I can tell, I can feel,
You are love, you are real
Really mine in the rain,
In the dark, in the sun.
Like the tide at its ebb,
I'm at peace in the web of your arms.
