If you've read my other original stories and poems, by now you should
be figuing out a pattern-I like to model one of my characters in every
story after David Cassidy!
When the old woman saw the boy, she was surprised. She told the queen that Mark would defeat a mighty dragon one day. As she spoke, the ugly old hag was transformed into a beautiful good witch. She had been seeking the dragon child, to tell his parents to guard him. Her enemy, an evil wizard named Morgant, wanted to attack the kingdom with an army of dragons. Only the dragon-slayer could stop his plans. The Princess of Lothian, who was destined to be his wife, had already been kidnapped.
After she had warned the Queen, the witch disappeared. Upset, the Queen went immediately to tell her husband. The King ordered that the old wizard who lived in the castle should guard the Prince.
One night, the old wizard feel deeply asleep. He had spent a long day looking after the prince, and forgot to call the guards. Morgant turned himself invisible and sneaked into the castle.
The next morning, the Queen came to her son’s room to wake him up. She found the old wizard sleeping and no guards. Nothing she tried could wake the old wizard. Frightened, the Queen ran to her son’s bed. The boy was gone.
The King ordered a search of the entire kingdom, but there was no trace of Mark. The only thing that could have happened was that he had been captured by the evil wizard and taken away.
The King and Queen lived in fear of Morgant and his dragon army. They hoped that their son would return in time to save them from the dragons. Eventually, the old king and queen died, and Mark’s brother became king. The prince never returned.
Morgant used his magic to carry Mark forward
in time. He ditched the Prince at an orphanage. Morgant meant
to return to his own time and then attack the small kingdom. However,
when he tried to return, he realized that he had lost the jewel that
held the time travel spell.
The great Dragon Wizard still had his dragons, but was trapped out of the time that he wanted to conquer. Besides, he was still trapped in the same time as the dragon slayer.
Morgant tried to reclaim Mark, but the prince
had been adopted out of the orphanage by a wealthy American. Morgant
did not have the wealth now that would allow him to travel to America and
search for the boy. He waited for his next chance to
destroy the prince of Orkney.
Sixteen years later, Morgant had settled into his new time. He was watching the television in his apartment. The channel was showing a news story about an American rock star named Mark Cyr. He was coming to London, and all the girls were thrilled. The moment Morgant saw a picture, he knew that the rock star was really the Prince of Orkney. Morgant had the chance that he had been waiting for.
Morgant found his dragon crystal which let
him control even the strongest of dragons, out of the closet. He
cast a spell and called up the huge black dragon below London. The
black monster broke out of a hill in the park and Morgant tapped it three
times with the crystal. Once the dragon obeyed him, Morgant climbed
onto its back and the dragon flew towards the stadium where the prince
was performing.
The black dragon flew low, heading straight for Mark in his glittering black and silver costume. The dragon opened its mouth, which was full of very sharp teeth. The dragon wanted to eat the prince.
In a few minutes, the packed stadium had completely emptied out. Some people believed that the dragon was a crashing plane. Others simply didn’t want to stay long enough to find out what it was.
The other members of the prince’s band ran for cover, but Mark stood on the stage and looked the dragon in the eye. Mark refused to back away. The fierce green of Mark’s eyes stared into the evil fires of the dragon’s eyes.
Morgant screamed in anger. Since Mark stood on the stage without fear of the dragon, it had lost speed. Morgant had forgotten the reason why he wanted to destroy the Prince of Orkney. Mark could kill dragons.
Once the dragon came close to the stage, Mark hefted the guitar that he had been playing. Mark hit the dragon on its soft nose with the guitar. Fire from the dragon’s mouth scorched the floor as it missed its target. The mighty dragon fell to the ground in a faint.
When the dragon fell, Morgant slid from its back to land in a heap on the floor. The crystal dragon slid out of his hands to land on the stage by Mark’s feet. Morgant scrambled toward the stage, but he was too late. Mark grabbed the crystal dragon and threw it against the floor. The magic crystal broke into glittering bits.
With the destruction of the controlling crystal, the Black Dragon slowly faded out of existence. Morgant screamed in anger. He had lost two of his most powerful magic things at the prince’s hands. But Morgant still had powerful magic inside.
Morgant’s anger mixed with his remaining magic to make a thunderstorm. Blue and green lightning struck around the stadium as the mighty Dragon Wizard began his attack.
Even if he had been raised in another time, the Prince’s royal blood gave him the courage to face the wizard. He stood under the stormy sky without fear as the magic lightning struck all around him. The fierce wind whipped Mark’s long hair away from his handsome face.
Morgant screamed a curse and shot a fireball from the palm of his hand. Mark leaped and rolled, and Morgant’s fireball smashed a huge hole through the concrete wall of the stadium.
When he landed from his leap, Mark tripped on his abandoned guitar. He fell and twisted his ankle. Morgant walked up to the Prince, who was trying to get up and away. Mark’s ankle hurt too badly to let him stand, though. He had to crawl. The only way he had to escape from Morgant was to crawl through the hole where the fireball had destroyed the wall.
Once he had gotten out of the stadium, Morgant shot another fireball at Mark. Mark rolled away and came to rest at the top of a cliff. Below, there were sharp rocks and a river.
Mark began to panic. He didn’t understand why he was being attacked this way. Morgant was walking to the prince. Mark knew that Morgant wanted to kick him off the cliff, and he wasn’t sure how to get away.
Morgant’s foot hit the prince in the ribs. Desperately, Mark grabbed the foot that had hit him. Mark hoped that Morgant would pull him to safety. Instead, his weight dragged Morgant off the cliff too.
Morgant fell screaming to land on the sharp rocks. The handsome prince fell without a sound to land in the river.
The next morning, the accident in the stadium was in the news. In the confusion, no one had gotten a good look at the Black Dragon. The newspaper reporters assumed that it had been a crashing airplane.
Searchers looked through the piles of broken and burned wreckage. Some people had died or had been hurt by flying bits. But no one could find the body of the American rock star. Part of the stage and the concrete wall had been totally destroyed. The searchers assumed that the performer had been blown into pieces too small to be found.
Further down the river, Mary was walking along the river. This morning, her father had told her that her favorite singer had died. Mark Cyr had been killed by a crashing plane, and there wasn’t even a body left.
Mary saw a man laying on the pebbles by the river. Mary was surprised to see anyone out fishing so early in the morning. When she got closer, she saw that he was half floating in the water.
Mary realized that it was Mark Cyr, and she screamed. Mary believed that he was supposed to be dead. His hair was wet and tangled with weeds from the river, and his clothing was torn and muddy. Mary was sad that she had found the body of the singer who had once made such beautiful music.
Mark made a soft, gurgling moan as Mary got closer. She began to cry when she realized that he was still alive. She rolled Mark onto his side so that he could cough up the water.
Once Mark could stand, Mary led him back to the house. From there, the prince could call the other members of his band to tell them that he was okay. The band agreed to return to America. But before they left, Mark took Mary out on a date.
In the end, Mary decided to leave England and
follow Mark Cyr to the United States. She met Mark again after another
concert, and then she didn’t let him escape. Mark proposed to her
and they got married. After all, the Prince of Orkney was
destined to marry the Princess of Lothian. They managed to live
happily ever after in Mark’s home on Hawaii.
