my report
Mood:  chillin'
In this report you will learn about my career. My career is fashion design. This is the career that most interests me. I hope you enjoy reading my report on fashion design, while learning so much about it. My career cluster is arts, a/v technology, and communication.
Some of the duties in fashion design are getting the fabrics for the clothes you are designing. Another dutie is knowing what to design. Most designers go to fashion shows to stay up to date with the fashion world. You have to have good designs for you or the company you work for. Not all fashion design pursuers make it in fashion.
Work conditions are pretty good, most designers that own their own design company work in a studio of their own which they commanly rent. If they don't own their own companies and work for a big company they usually get their own offices. When young designers are first starting out they work for other companies until they have enough experience to start their own company. Magazines such as Vogue, Teen Vogue, and other fashion magazines love people with degrees in fashion design. The best states for fashion designers are California, New York, and a few others. Their aren't many colleges for fashion design considering how many people make it in this business.
Some of the training you need would be to know how to use a sewing machine and knowing what fabrics to use for different designs. For some designs you need to sew by hand with a needle and thread. The type of education you'd need would be having degrees in fashion, textiles, knitwear, art and design, and graphic design. You can become a designer with just two years of college, but you wouldn't get paid as much or get as good of a job as someone who has had four years of college. Most companies have internships so you can be more aware of your job.
Personal qualities needed for the job would be a good taste in fashion. You need to have a good idea of what goes with what and what doesn't. You get most of the training in college, which means you need to go to college to be a fashion designer. Being a fashion designer is not all glamour and beauty for you, because you only design the clothes and most designers don't model their clothing. Being a designer also means you'll have a tight schedual. You have to meet due dates for fashion lines, and special designs for companies. You need to be very flexible during the week and most weekends. This isn't the type of job you should have if you can't put many hours and effort towards your job.
The best tool to have in fashion design is a sewing machine. For more detailed designs you need a needle and thread. Big companies use bigger machines or more people.
My career outlook on this career is good. I think this career wouldn't be good for all people. Fashion design is deffinetly not the easiest job.
Chances for promotions are slim in most cases unless you are at the top of your game, or the best in your graduating class. Once you get your name out there you've pretty much got it made. It's better to get a job with a high end company to give you a head start in fashion design. You can't just get a job after a few years, no it takes many years mostly about five or more years of training and experience. Some do advance quickly to achieve their goal as a fashion designer. Designers that are higher on the fashion ladder really look down on younger designers, because they are either jealous or they know they have competition to up against which makes it harder for them to stay famous and keep their name out there.
The salary of fashion designers starts out low at about $10 an hour. The pay keeps going up with the more experience you have with your career. Your salary will also depend on where you live because you will get paid more in different countries. Your salary also depends on the amount of schooling you've had. You can make anywhere from $14,000 to more than $150,000 a year.
Some of the closely related occupations are interior design which is equally interesting. Another is costume design and the people that design those clothes are usually for concerts and movies. Lastly is fabric and textiles that equally go along with fashion design.
The reason why I am so interested in this career is because I've always wanted to promote my style that I already share with others to everyone. I love the fact that I could do that as a living. I love great looking clothes, and I love wearing them. It saddens me that not many stores carry the type of clothes I like and many other people like. Most stores carry preppy, bright, and obnockshious. I absolutely hate preppy clothes with a passion. I refuse to dress and wear that type of fashion design that so ofter promoted.
